Iman family notes

Spring Run (Elkhorn) Cave

When Christian Iman sold his lands, he reserved the rights to move his "powder mill" equiment onto the 2+ acre set-aside he left from a major sale of his properties to Brethren Martin Garber of Rockingham. Gunpowder production involved linestone deposits usually taken from caves of the sort on or very close to Iman's Mill. Access to Elkhorn cave is restricted due to the nearly extinct large eared bats which call it home. Access to the large cave involves an extensive and trecherous fall so that one wonders how often people went down those sink holes in the old days. The Spring Run/ Elkhorn Mountain Cave is considered
a significant bat cave in West Virginia. In addition
to other species, the cave's bat population contains
the endangered Virginia Big-Eared Bat. Currently the
cave is closed until more is known about the White
Nose Syndrome severely affecting bat populations.
