Brenneman Turner Mill

The mill, built about 1800 by Abraham Brenneman survived the Civil War burning of the Shenandoah Valley by Union troops. it is one of the largest and oldest surviving mills in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. It was in operation until 1988. The property is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and as a Virginia Historic Landmark. It's a 2.5 story brick structure with very thick and solid walls. The 16 foot watermill is mounted on the west end of the south wall. Containing three set of burr stones, the mill was originally powered from a millpond served from Linville Creek.

The Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center has been working to maintain the mill. It has in place several crucial projects to preserve the property and actively seeks supporter in the project. The Center has recently secured a grant from the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation to support the work but continues to look for support.
