- Notes:
-
Called Monroe in 1880 census where ages of James and John seem to have been switched.
James and Jenny, his third wife, died on the same day; he of a stroke, she of a heart attack.
They are buried in a common grave at Nethken Hill Cemetery.
He'd gone to "Buzzard's Gloy School", though nobody recalls how the school earned that name. The school was dismantled about 1915. As you leave Scherr going toward Keyser on route 93 there is a road that turns to the left at a right angle acros
s a bridge. This is a rat tail which leads through the spurs of Allegheny Mountain, and may be nearby where the school was located.
