In 1777, a John Iman is listed in Upper Paxtang for paying a tax related to being a non-associator. This implies that he may have been of a faith to preclude particpation in military affairs -- a common belief by our anabaptist ancestors.
In 1775, three Eymans from this same small area up the Susquehanna River had chosen to join the militia: Jacob Eyman, Jacob Eyman, and Christley Eyman. One of the Jacobs had lost his powderhorn at the rout of Fort Washingon. Several years later i
t might have been time for a young chap emerging of an age to serve to make his choice. With these assumptions, a birth date is estimated as 1760.
