Notes for JOHN DOREMIRE:
Greensburg Lutheran Church in Westmoreland Co., PA lists Johannes, born 21 December 1793, to parents Georg and Anna Catharina Dormanner.
1820 Ohio Census, Delaware Co., Big Rock Twp., p. 125: John Turmoir (Doremire)
Hopely's "History of Crawford Co., Ohio" states that John Dunmeier and others arrived in 1820 when Dunmeier 'entered land outside of what is now Galion.' Hopley also relates, with a conflicting date, that 'Previous to 1820 a little girl about fou
r years old, the child of a settler named John Dunmeyer, who lived about a mile southwest of the present site of Galion, was found to be missing.' Baskin and Battey's "History of Crawford Co. and Ohio" further states 'there was a double log cabi
n one mile southwest of Galion, in which lived two families, one by the name of Erysman, and one by the name of Dun, or Doormise, who had a little daughter about four years of age.' John Doremire's daughter Barbara was never seen again after bein
g taken by the Indians.
In 1822 Hopley's "History of Crawford Co., OH" lists John Dunmeier and John Eysman as residents of Richland Co., Polk Twp., and, according to Baskin and Battey's "History of Crawford County and Ohio," 'In 1822, Mr. Nail bought eighty acres southwe
st of Galion. Michael Brown, John Dunmeier, and James Leveredge assisted him in putting up his cabin.'
In 1826 John Dunmire purchased 25 acres of land in Marion Co., OH according to a deed dated 13 June 1826, and recorded in September.
